Conger LP Gas at 2018 Sunbelt Expo Field Day
Published on July 25, 2018
Another Sunbelt Expo Field Day is in the books. On Tuesday, July 24, over 300 attendees took part in the preview event for the 2018 Sunbelt Expo in October at Spence Field in Moultrie, Georgia. Travelling around the Expo grounds in trams driven by Kubota tractors, the participants got to visit various stops in the field to hear from some of the leading agricultural researchers and companies on new research, the latest technology, and more.
Conger LP Gas Alternative Fuel Sales Manager Bill Moore spoke to each tram about the benefits of using propane-fueled irrigation engines compared to those run by electricity or diesel. He explained how competitive propane engines are compared to electricity on a cost per acre inch stating that University of Georgia research has found that electricity cost is roughly $7.50 per acre inch of water while propane engines are right around $7.00-$7.50 per acre. Part of the demonstration included showing the 200 horsepower, 10.3 liter propane irrigation engine that Conger LP Gas and the Propane Education and Research Council (PERC) donated to the Sunbelt Ag Expo farm for research. The Conger/PERC engine replaced a diesel engine at the Expo and has saved them over $7,000 just in fuel costs over the past five growing seasons.
