Conger LP Gas hosts ‘Nailed It! Jr.’ cake competition

Published on July 29, 2019

On July 23, 2019 Conger LP Gas teamed up with local Tifton bakery Cole’s Cakery to host a night of fun for kids called “Nailed It! Junior!” Based on the popular Netflix baking show, our version of “Nailed It!” featured two rounds where the contestants had to recreate baked goods that Jimmy Cole of Cole’s Cakery created. Contestants came from cities all across South Georgia including Tifton, Cordele, Bainbridge, Thomasville, Ocilla, Ochlocknee, Lenox, and even two from Wichita, Kansas who were visiting family in the area. The competition was filmed by a camera crew and will be featured on an upcoming episode of “Cooking with Hugh” that will air later this year on WALB ABC and NBC. The theme for the night was all things related to the beach and the ocean. In round one, the young cake decorators had to recreate three cupcakes of tropical animals in just 10 minutes. The second round lasted an hour and contestants had to recreate an entire cake that was decorated like a beach and ocean. Local celebrity judges, including Tifton Mayor Julie Smith, Tifton-Tift County Chamber of Commerce Vice President Chris Beckham, Eighth Street Middle School Principal Chad Stone, and Carroll’s Sausage & Country Store owner and TV host Hugh Hardy, had the difficult task of judging the cake creations and choosing winners. Chloe from Ocilla won first place, Gigi from Tifton won second place and a young lady named Kate took home third. All contestants were awarded small baking gift sets with the first through third places winning larger gift baskets filled with baking supplies.
